Teaching:
Q: How many classes can I teach?
A: Once you have become one of our continuing faculty members, you are allowed to teach up to 2 classes per session up to 33 ECHs per academic year. Class distribution is determined by our Scheduling team and course enrollment.
Q: Can I teach for your competitor schools while I am teaching for DeVry?
A: Yes, all of our instructors are adjunct faculty (independent contractors) and not employees of DeVry. Therefore, you may teach with whatever school you choose.
Q: How do I get scheduled for courses?
A: Scheduling is done based on student demand and faculty depth. When the Scheduling team needs a section to be filled, they will contact the instructor.
Q: Do I have to be available on certain days or at certain times?
A: The course you will be facilitating is asynchronous, so the students will be logging in during the day or evening at their leisure to participate in class. From time to time a student may need additional assistance and might require an office hours appointment with the instructor.
Q: Do I have to do any live discussions?
A: No, everything is asynchronous in your course. Students can attend live lectures as an additional learning tool, but will be facilitated by another instructor. There are times where you will be required to attend a conference call with the Faculty Management group.
Q: Will I be building the course or creating the content for the course?
A: All the courses for DeVry have the content already developed by a course architect. As an online adjunct faculty member, you are required to facilitate the course, give feedback to the students, and maintain the grade book.
Q: What are the gradable assignments within the courses?
A: Each course is constructed differently and has various gradable assignments. Each course may have several gradable assignments that DeVry delivers. To identify those specific to your course please ask your recruiter.
Q: How often do I have to grade?
A: Each week the students participate in threaded discussion which you will award participation points for. Several weeks of the session the students will also submit assignments and projects that will need to be graded. A grading key is generally provided for grading these assignments.
Requirements:
Q: Do I need any specific software for my computer?
A: Sufficient technology and Internet access is required to access online courses. We require Windows 2000, XP Home, or XP Professional and Microsoft Office XP Professional or higher – must include the following: Word, Excel, Power Point and Access. *Some Gaming courses require additional software*.
Please review the following link for more details on the technical specifications.
Q: Can work experience replace educational credentials?
A: All faculty must posses a minimum of a Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution. To teach a specific undergraduate course you must have 18 graduate credit hours in that specific field. To teach a graduate course you must have approximately five years relevant work experience in that field. Certain courses may require more work experience.
